Display

Display Shows No Image

Check if there is still the external video signal via VGA or DVI.
Check the BIOS settings of the LVDS connection. If you do not know the correct setting of the LVDS connector on your system, please contact us. We will gladly help you.
Check if the BIOS has been reset, a disguised time and date display is an indication of the resetting of BIOS, as well as no longer sufficient capacity of the BIOS battery.
Check whether the BIOS battery still has enough voltage, this voltage should be 3V.

Display Burnt In

Continuous use of an LCD display on which the same image is always shown for long periods of time can result in the display of so-called "ghost images". The reason for this is the loss of rotational elasticity of the deflection crystal modules. This means that the white backlight cannot be completely transmitted as the deflection crystals do not return to their original position. This effect is not a quality feature; it can also occur with industrial quality displays.
However, this effect is not permanent and resolves itself after a while if a dynamic picture change is set or the display is deactivated for a while. The time it takes for the ghosting effect to disappear depends on the severity of the effect. Using RGB/SW test software will also eliminate the effect. Here too, the time required to perform the RGB/SW change depends on the severity of the effect.
To avoid this effect, the displays should only be activated when required. Our systems are set at the factory so that the displays deactivate after a certain time (standby mode).

IP - International Protection

In many processes electronic equipments, as well as industrial computers have to work safely under hardest environmental conditions for several years. The penetration of moisture and dust must be prevented so that a reliable function is guaranteed. Production areas are burdened with dust, oil, soot, etc. In food production it must be ensured that the equipement is not damaged by cleaning with water or other cleaning agents.

In the conception, developement and production tci puts special emphasis on abidance of IP protection (IP International Protection). The front of our industrial computers with TFTs are protected in accordance to IP65 rear side at least IP52. The unique selling point of the terminal T15 is, that it is all around protected according to IP65. See the following chart for apportion the protection rating:

KNX

KNX has Lost the Physical Address and the Software Button is Not Working Any Longer

If the KNX bus voltage removed during programming, it comes to master reset of the KNX module. The application will be deleted, and the physical address is reset. The amenaKNX can now be accessed through the physical address 15.15.255. In the ETS, the physical address must be set to this value and the application program be reloaded. After this step the software button works again and it a new physical address can be assigned to it.

Performance / Windows7

The performance of our systems is adapted to their application in order to achieve a balance between power, performance and heat dissipation. There are some options to increase the performance of your system:
1) Disable Windows 7 Aero glass interface, thus you give your system around 200-300 Mb memory
2) Check your network, because in building technology our systems are mostly used to visualize control systems and run your data retrieval via the Ethernet interface. It may happen that a bad network connection leads to a delay of visualization.

Power Consumption

The power consumption of our systems can be found on our website (download/manuals) in the information about your system.

SSD

Disable Defragmenting of SSD

When using a SSD reflect actual service must be disabled to perform the defragmentation. The SSD may be damaged by using Disk Defragmenter. The duration of the SSD decreases rapidly by running defragmentation.

SSD Defective Prior to the Expiry of the Warranty Period

The lifetime of a SSD is defined by the number of permissible write and erase cycles. Even if the SSD is in the warranty period, the SSD is excluded by the warranty if it exceeded the allowable write and erase cycles. Please contact our support to check the number of write cycles of your system.

Standby

tci systems are awakened by the touch of any functions from standby. If this isn't working, please check the following possible causes:
1) The USB power supply is turned off in standby.
The touch sensor is powered via USB voltage, if this disabled the touch is also disabled.
2) The Hybrid Sleep is enabled. The data of the current session is stored on the hard disk and the system is similar to the idle state to a state.

Multitouch

The capacitive multitouch technology offers an intuitive user interface with two-hand operation and gesture recognition. With the robust glass surface it is also suitable for machine-oriented applications very well. The two-hand operation provides faster input processes. Incorrect inputs and accidental starting are prevented. The user selects the parameter with one hand and sets the value with the other. Also the classical safety requirements to release certain instructions only with both hands can be fulfilled. Cutouts of measured value diagrams or subranges of drafts can be simply increased by spreading the fingers. Also complex applications can be grasped more simply and served with fewer sequences.

Advantages:

  • attractive in price
  • scratch-proof glass surface
  • multitouch
  • high resolution, low power consumption

Resistive Touch

Resitive technology is versatile and economical for applications such as food service and retail point-of-sale, industrial process control and instrumentation, portable and handheld products, and communication devices. Resistive touch screens have flexible top layer and a rigid bottom layer separated by insulting dots, with a transparent conductive coating. Voltage applied to the layer produces a gradient across each layer. Pressing the flexible top sheet creates electrical contact between the resistive layers, essentially closing a switch in the circuit.

Advantages:

  • attractive in price
  • operating with various media
    (finger, pen, gloves)
  • high resolution, low power consumption

Disadvantages:

  • reduced optical clarity
  • polyester surface can be damaged

Capacitive Touch

Capacitive technology offers durability, reliability, and optical clarity. Popular applications include gaming machines, ATM installations, kiosks, industrial equipment, and point-of-sale.
Capacitive touch screens are curved or flat glass substrates coated with a transparent metal oxide. A voltage is applied to the corners of the overlay creating a minute uniform electric field. A bare finger draws current from each corner of the electronic field, creating a voltage drop that is measured to determine touch location.

Advantages:

  • extremely durable
  • very accurate
  • good optical clarity
  • good resolution

Disadvantages:

  • needs bare finger or capacitive stylus
(that meens: no using with gloves)
  • servere scratch can affect operation within the damaged area

Near Field Image - NFI

Near Field Imaging, a projected capacitive technology, is extremely rugged, yet sensitive to touch, making it perfect for harsh industrial environments and supervised kiosks.
Near Field Imaging (NFI) touch screens consist of two laminated glass sheets with a patterned coating of transparent metal oxid in between. An AC signal is applied to the patterned conductive coating, creating an electrostatic field on the surface of the screen. When a finger - or other conductive stylus comes into contact with the sensor, the electrostatic field is disturbed.

Advantages:

  • good optical clarity
  • extremely durable - scratch and debris resistant glass front
  • operates with finger, gloves or conductive stylus
  • accurate - even under harsh conditions

Disadvantages:

  • sligthly less touch resolution

Acoustic Wave

Acoustic wave touch screens use transducers mounted at the edge of a glass overlay to emit ultrasonic sound waves along two sides. These waves are reflected across the surface of the glass received by sensors. A finger or other soft tipped stylus absorbs some of the acoustic energy and the controller measures the amplitude change of the wave to determine touch location.

Advantages:

  • good optical clarity
  • z-axis capability
  • durable glass front

Disadvantages:

  • requires finger or soft absorbing stylus
  • difficult to industrialize
  • signal affected by surface liquids or other contaminants

Infrarot

Infrared touch screenes are primarily used for large displays, banking machines, and in military applications.
Infrared touch screens are based on light-beam interruption technology. Instead of an overlay on the surface, a frame surrounds the display. The frame has light sources, or light emitting diodes (LED's) on one side and light detectors on the opposite side, creating an optical grid across the screen. When an object touches the screen, the invisible light beam is interrupted, causing a drop in the signal received by photosensors.

Advantages:

  • 100% light transmission (not an overlay)
  • accurate

Disadvantages:

  • costly
  • low reliability (MTBF for diodes)
  • parallax problems
  • accidental activation
  • low touch resolution
  • no protection for display surface
